In March, Governor Raimondo signed into law Rhode Island's new electronic voter registration law. While an increasing amount of business is conducted online, becoming a registered voter or changing your registration in Rhode Island still has to be done in person or through the mail. This legislation will allow voters to easily register and keep their registration up to date, and includes a number of critical protections for the privacy of personal voter information. In addition, this legislation has been hailed by the national ACLU as a "voting precedent every state should follow," because, following ACLU advocacy, this legislation includes the nation's first language specifically making online registration accessible to voters with disabilities.
