REPORT: The Case Against Red Light Cameras (June 2008)

In 2005, RI enacted a law authorizing municipalities to use “red light camera” technology. However, because of legislative concerns about the technology, the statute contained a sunset clause. This report argues that it would be a mistake for the state to repeal the sunset clause.

This report challenges recent highly-publicized claims about RI's alcohol-related auto-accident fatality rate and the push for punitive drunk driving legislation. The report recommends treatment and other non-punitive measures to address the problem.
