2024 Annual Meeting

October 22, 2024 @ 6:00 pm
@ 8:00 pm

Event Details:
This event will be held at CIC Providence at 6pm on Tuesday, October 22. Tickets are $25. It will include socializing, hors d'oeurves and wine, and honoring our three Civil Libertarians of the Year:

  • Caroline Contrata, a Westerly resident and shoreline access proponent who fought back after she was sued by a local fire district for exercising her First Amendment rights to contest the district's closure of a right-of-way to the beach.
  • Dee Jensen, whose years-long advocacy led to the passage by the General Assembly of "Mario's Law," a major step forward for juvenile criminal justice reform in our state.
  • Marianne Mirando, a former high school librarian who stood up to concerted attacks against her from those who wanted to remove books from the library and seek her prosecution under the state's obscenity law.

2024 marks the 65th anniversary of the ACLU of Rhode Island. Last year's annual meeting was a testament to our commitment to fighting for civil liberties in Rhode Island, and we are excited to continue this work for another 65 years! As we prepare for the year to come, we invite you to join us in our fight against injustice and inequality by purchasing a ticket to our 2024 Annual Meeting.

Connect with like-minded individuals and learn about the work being done by the ACLU Foundation of Rhode Island. The 2024 ACLU Foundation of Rhode Island Annual Meeting programming will include honoring civil libertarians for their unwavering commitment to civil liberties. Additionally, we will present some recent lawsuits, and celebrate the work accomplished in the past year with hors d'oeuvres and wine.
