RI Promise Scholarship and Students with Disabilities (H 5605, H 5224A)

We supported this important bill which would ensure that the Rhode Island Promise Program – which provides free tuition to students attending CCRI – appropriately accommodates students with disabilities. Our organization advocated on the behalf of a student who, due to her disability, needed to take a third year of attendance at CCRI to complete her course load, but was charged tuition for this third year due to the Promise Program only ensuring funding for two years of courses. This legislation would guarantee that students with disabilities are able to equally partake in the benefits of this scholarship program. Though originally introduced as H 5605, the legislation was ultimately incorporated into H 5224A. H 5224 A passed and has since been signed into law.
