Volunteers help us at Rhode Island's annual Pride Fest.

A lot. That's what you can do for the ACLU just by donating a little time.

With just a staff of four, we all wear many hats at the ACLU of Rhode Island in order to protect the civil liberties of everyone in the Ocean State, but we don’t do it alone. Our volunteers allow us to accomplish a great deal more than we could on our own. Our volunteer attorneys, for example, handle a legal docket of dozens of cases every year all while maintaining case loads at their law firms.

But you don’t need to be a lawyer or an expert on the Constitution to do your part for civil liberties. Our volunteers help us host events, advocate at the State House, and produce our long running cable show, among other things. They do this by serving as camera operators, directors and sound managers, writing testimony and speaking at community meetings, stuffing envelopes and making phone calls, and doing everything from hanging posters and setting up tables to taking photos and talking with people at our events.

You, too, can help make the ACLU of RI stronger by joining our volunteer corps.  Simply print and fill out our volunteer questionnaire to tell us what you would like to do to help. You can also email development@riaclu.org to find out more about our volunteer opportunities. Once we have your information, we’ll contact you when there are opportunities for you to get involved.

Don’t have the time to volunteer? Recommend a friend who you think would be interested in becoming a card-carrying member of the ACLU and we’ll send them a note asking them to join. Membership is the lifeblood of our organization and your help reaching out to new people is another valuable service you can provide.

With your help, we will continue to stand up for fundamental rights and freedoms.
