We asked that legislation be amended which would "establish a safety and behavioral health committee" in an effort to "provide mental health supports to students in need." We strongly support this goal, but also wish to ensure that students' privacy rights are respected and that punitive measures in addressing the behavior of students with mental health needs are avoided. As such, we asked this legislation be amended to reflect our concerns to protect students and to avoid punitive responses for students.
