As a state with one of the most protective Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights statutes in the country – imposing numerous barriers to disciplining wayward officers – it is long past time for significant revisions to be made to this law. A number of bills to do that have been introduced this session. In supporting the general goals of these bills, the ACLU pressed for additional amendments to ensure more transparency, and specifically for revisions to the Access to Public Records Act to allow effective public insight into the results of internal police investigations.
