Domestic workers – a demographic of employees largely comprised of lower-income women of color – are inappropriately exempted from the state’s minimum wage laws. We supported the repeal of this exemption, noting that its impact is sexist, racially discriminatory, and limiting of the economic mobility of domestic workers. Unfortunately, the bill died in committee in both the House and the Senate.
