In addition to commenting on the importance of properly apportioned districts as a component of voting rights and racial justice, we urged several amendments to bills which would create a commissions charged with the task redrawing district lines. In addition to supporting language in to ensure equitable representation of BIPOC voters and clear adherence to the Access to Public Records Act, we further testified to the importance of adding language which would address the impact that prison gerrymandering has had on voting districts in Rhode Island.
