In 2022, the legislature passed legislation which allows hotels to eject patrons who use “verbally abusive language," and, at the time, we raised concerns about the broad wording of this power and the dangers of it being discriminatorily enforced. This year, the issue came up again in a bill which seeks to expand this statute by further allowing hotels to eject patrons using “offensive” or “demeaning” language. We again raised concerns about the potential of discriminatory enforcement of this language and urged that this language be removed.
